Chair of Governors
St. Mark’s is a one-form entry school in North Islington that serves a diverse community. Led by a stable leadership team, the school has gone from strength to strength. It was judged as Good in its last two Ofsteds and Excellent in a recent SIAMs inspection. The Chair is near the end of her third term in office and has decided that it is good governance for her to stand down. The new Chair will inherit a cohesive board who bring a diversity of thought and experience to their role as Governors. The Board meets four times a year (1.5hrs each) and there are three well-established sub-committees that meet on a termly basis. The agenda and policy schedule for all meetings are detailed in a yearly plan to facilitate focused meetings.
St. Mark’s is ambitious about ensuring positive outcomes for its children, many of whom face challenging starts to their lives.
The role of Chair will suit someone who is:
- equally committed to the power of education to change lives
- strategic in thought
- nurturing in their dealings with others, particularly as giving constructive feedback is central to the role
- financially literate
- strong communicator
- Prior experience of chairing meetings or leading a group is necessary
