Deputy Head Teacher

Salary scale: Outer London L5 to L8, subject to experience

Full-time, Permanent

A Deputy Head Teacher is sought for St John’s, a well-resourced and popular one-form entry Church of England primary school in the north London suburb of Friern Barnet.

St John’s has excellent facilities including a cookery suite, an indoor swimming pool and an all-weather Multi Use Games Area, allowing children to enjoy outdoor sport the whole year long. The school aims to provide a happy environment where learning is both challenging and fun. Rated “Good” by Ofsted, it is always heavily over-subscribed.

In addition to their Deputy Head Teacher duties, the successful candidate will be expected to spend a proportion of their time carrying out Year 6 class teaching responsibilities. Depending on requirements, this may be up to 0.5 of the working week.

You will have:

  • Successful experience of leading one or more subject areas
  • At least five years’ successful teaching experience in the primary age range
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relating to school leadership and management, and curriculum/teaching and learning
  • Evidence of successful strategies for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating school improvement
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences

The Deputy Head Teacher will be expected to show commitment to preserving the religious character of the school by providing leadership in the context of the school’s motto “Faith, Excellence and Enjoyment”.
